Joyner Library has Gone Fine Free for Many Items!
To support affordability and reduce barriers to using the library’s research collections, Joyner Library has eliminated overdue fines for the late return of most library books and physical media as of December 1, 2021. You do still need to renew items or return them, though, because library items that are not returned after the due date will be billed to you as lost.
Changes to Equipment Overdue Fines and Loan Periods
To encourage equitable and timely access for high-demand items to as many as possible, starting January 1, 2022:
- Equipment (including laptops and cameras) will have overdue fines of $5.00 per day and the maximum late fee will be $35.00.
- Course reserves titles will have overdue fines of $1.00 per hour for hourly checkout items and $1.00 per day for daily checkouts.
- All equipment will check out for either 1-day or 1-week. The need for laptops, hotspots, and other equipment is too great to check out these for an entire semester to only a few.
- The Wi-Fi hotspots will only circulate to students. Faculty and staff who need a hotspot should discuss their needs with their departments.
Processing Fee Raised
The lost item processing fee is raised to $30.00. This fee is charged by the ECU Libraries when an item has been billed as lost. The fee offsets the costs incurred for billing and related activities.
The employees of Joyner Library are happy to serve you and look forward to doing so.
