ECU students, faculty, and staff must have their 1 Card to check out materials. ECU patrons are allowed one checkout per semester without their 1 Card, but we do still need another valid physical photo ID for this exception, especially for expensive laptops and cameras. Since digital images and phone apps can so easily be edited, library employees cannot accept pictures of ID cards for this exception; please carry and present your physical ID cards.

Distance Education students may also receive 1 Cards from the 1 Card Office, but may instead present a distance education card printable from PiratePort along with a driver license or other state ID. Since digital images and phone apps can so easily be edited, library employees cannot accept pictures of ID cards; please carry and present your physical ID card.

Area Educators, Cooperative Borrowers, North Carolina Residents, and Friends of Joyner Library must present their library card to check out materials. A government issued photo ID and proof of work or study (Area Educators and Cooperative Borrowers) will be requested for verification at the beginning of academic semesters or new school years starting in July.

ECU Health (previously Vidant Health) employees and ECU Medical Residents must present their ECU Health ID. Since digital images and phone apps can so easily be edited, library employees cannot accept pictures of ID cards; please carry and present your physical ID card.
