ECU students, faculty, and staff, as well as Area Educators, Cooperative Borrowers, Friends of Joyner or Laupus Library, NC Residents, and others approved as borrowers in the Libraries' circulation procedures (Joyner Library & the Music Library or Laupus Health Sciences Library) may check out items from the ECU Libraries.

ECU students, faculty, and staff are usually automatically registered for library use within a few days of each semester's beginning. Simply bring the item you would like to borrow (checkout) to the Circulation desk along with your ECU 1 Card.

Other borrowers must first register (and pay a membership fee, if applicable). Once registered, borrowers need only bring the item for checkout, their library card, and a photo ID for verification to the Circulation desk.

For details on what materials may be checked out, how many items can be checked out at the same time, and the loan periods for materials, visit the respective Circulation Procedure for Joyner Library & the Music Library or for Laupus Health Sciences Library.

Self-Checkout at Joyner Library

Joyner Library has a self-checkout kiosk that can be used when the Circulation Desk is busy or closed, or you simply prefer self-service. It has on-screen instructions for scanning your 1 Card or library card and then scanning the materials you would like to checkout.
