How do I evaluate websites?

A number of things should be considered when evaluating websites:

1. Currency-How current is the website? Is it maintained? How often?

2. Reliability-Does the website present a biased viewpoint? Does it list the source(s) of its information?

3. Authority-Is the creator of the website a reliable source of information or an expert? Is it a personal, educational, commercial or organizational website?

4. Purpose-Who is the intended audience? What is the purpose of the website? To inform? To influence? To engage? To entertain? Does it accomplish its purpose?  Can it be used for your research purposes?

Remember the acronym C.R.A.P!
